The Towards safety impulse is a Persuasion Pathway, first explained in Part 2, Chapter 4 of The 7 Skills to impress™. It is paired with the Away From Safety impulse.
Towards is also a key element of Identity and is found in the 7 Skills Identity Model adjacent to the top-level Identity Block. This is first explained in Part 1, Chapter 4.
Persuasion Pathways are subconscious communication channels. As a baby grows, it learns how to absorb and manage millions of bits of data per second. It develops some preferred routes for the way it receives data.
The client more readily accepts info that is shaped to fit these channels. And listening to your client’s language lets you detect their Persuasion Pathways.
With the Towards/Away From Persuasion Pathway, you’re seeking to understand if someone, under pressure, feels safer moving either;
- Towards a solution, or,
- Away from the problem.
Persuasion Pathways reflect a person’s Identity. It’s natural for a High IDQ to move Towards a solution. When High IDQ people face pressure, their instinctive language will be Towards. It’s the reverse for Away From people.
