Finding the right words under pressure is hard, even for managers who do it every week. PMR tracks how well they manage it in the minutes after a match.
I learned how much those words matter in places where lives were on the line. One of those moments came down to three seconds. I’ll tell you about it at the end.
Every post-match interview Marco Rose has given in Premier Managers Revealed 2026/27, collected in one place: the quotes, the score out of 12, the Identity level and the analysis, matchweek by matchweek. For the latest standings, see the Premier Managers Revealed league tables.
Matchweek 1
Manchester City 2 – 1 AFC Bournemouth
Sunday 23 August, Etihad Stadium
Marco Rose — AFC Bournemouth (away)
9/12 · Identity level fed: Belonging
“It’s always difficult here because you know how good they are in possession. We did many things in the right way but in the end maybe it was a question of power. But if you see the clock ticking and it’s five minutes to go you need to stay active. You need to go forward and put them in uncomfortable situations. These are things we are going to speak about and we will try to do it better next time.”
“All in all it was a good away game from us. But you want to make your fans happy. We didn’t do that today but we will do it in the next games.”
Rose loses at the Etihad and gets to the point quickly. With five minutes left his team stopped going forward, and he says they needed to stay active and make City uncomfortable instead. He tells his players it will be talked about and done better next time. That gives them something concrete for the week. He credits City properly and says plainly that Bournemouth owed their supporters a better afternoon. What he never does is name a single player or quality, so his players get the correction with nothing of their own to set against it.

AFC Bournemouth 1 – 1 Everton
Saturday 29 August, Vitality Stadium
Marco Rose – AFC Bournemouth (home)
9/12 · Identity level fed: Belonging
It was mostly about the result, but as a coach you evaluate the performance as well and in most phases of the game it was really good. It was a quite open game, quite up and down. We can get better in some parts of the game. It was not even a set piece for the goal because we had already cleared the situation, but I don’t want to blame anyone because I saw so many positive things.
I am really thankful for the warm welcome and I really appreciate to be coach of this team. It was a really nice feeling to coach this game. Like last week, we would like to present our fans with a win, but we will have to wait one more week.
Rose separates the late result from the performance he watched. Bournemouth were good through most phases, there are parts to improve, and he refuses to make the equaliser one person’s fault because he saw too many positive things. His warmth towards the players and supporters feeds Belonging. The SQAs and the next step remain broad, which keeps a strong draw interview at nine.

Q: How do you assess the game?
It is what it is. We started really well. We played a top first half. Our pressing was impressive. The opponents had no solutions. We scored two goals and had more chances. Then we conceded in pretty much with the first chance for the opponents. In the second half, we dropped a bit in everything. Even we didn’t get real trouble in our box but we conceded again a late goal. This is disappointing but I’m really happy with the confidence the lads came here today to take the three points. At the end, we have to work on the things we need to improve. And that’s what we will do in the coming days. We knew that it’s going to be intense against Newcastle. We defended Anthony Elanga really well. We did all that but in the end, if you are 2-0 up and you have the chance to score a third goal, you should do it or you have to defend your goal better than we did.
Q: On conceding late again?
I try my best. Even the lads. It’s not with intention to do it. Sometimes you have phases where things like these happen. We should go for our first win the Premier League to calm down this kind of talks. Regarding the points, I am not happy. We just have two now. It’s about results in this level. But performance wise, I see a lot of good things.
10/12 · Identity level fed: Capability
Rose praises an impressive press, first-half confidence and several things Bournemouth did well, then identifies the late goal and the drop in the second half as the work. He treats repeated late concessions as a phase that can pass and promises to address them in the coming days. The balance of praise and criticism is credible, although the collective Identity is described less strongly than the performance.
Matchweek 4
Bournemouth 2–2 Brentford
Marco Rose, Bournemouth: 12/12
“We are a team. We are doing mistakes together, we win together, we lose together. So never mind.”
Rose treats the errors as individual moments that can happen to anyone. He makes clear that the players still belong to the team and share its successes and setbacks. He then focuses on their response: Bournemouth recovered from going behind, kept attacking and created another chance after the equaliser.
His praise has substance. He names their defending, attacking, attitude and ability to compete, giving the players evidence of what they can do well. The mistakes do not wipe out those strengths. With Real Sociedad next, he gives them another opportunity to turn that performance into a win.

Matchweek 5
AFC Bournemouth 0–1 Liverpool
Marco Rose, AFC Bournemouth: 8/12
“You don’t get points for playing well, so that’s what we see. The fact is we have three points after five games. Even we could win every five games, but we have to work on it, we have to analyse it now during the national break.”
“We don’t have to change things in general. We have to change details, but these details we need to change quickly.”
“I’m quite sure that we can change the situation point-wise if we stay confident, believe in us, and work hard.”
“We played a good game against Liverpool. They had some days more to recover, and I think we looked fit, even at the end. We were the team that went for a goal.”
Rose points to detail in both penalty areas and says Bournemouth were fit, kept going for a goal and played a good game. Those are positives, although they are fairly general and say little about the team’s deeper Strengths, Qualities and Attributes.
The path is direct: analyse, discuss, sharpen both boxes and change the details quickly. The rest of the message is thin. “Stay confident, believe in us, and work hard” sounds positive, but Rose gives the players few specific reasons to believe it. Three points from five matches is also allowed to sit heavily over the interview. There is useful coaching language here, but not enough for one of the week’s highest scores.

Matchweek 6
Chelsea 5–1 AFC Bournemouth
Saturday 10 October 2026, Stamford Bridge, London.
Marco Rose, AFC Bournemouth: 11/12
Identity level: Safety and Belonging.
We played not good. We knew Chelsea is a team that starts well and score many goals at beginnings of games. It is our responsibility we didn’t react the right way on this information. The last games we mostly had good performances and struggled in some situations and got punished. Today we struggled for long periods in the game. We were not ready, we were not sharp enough. Even our pressing was not Bournemouth-like in many situations. It can happen. We need to face the reality – three points after six games. But we’re going to stick together. We knew it was going to be a demanding season and we have many games where we can show up, do it better and get on a run. I know this business. We played five games well. Drew three times, lost two times. Now the first time we played not the way we want to see us. It’s not up to me when rumours start about the coach. I can deal with this. I know the team, the way we work, I’m confident, I believe in the club and the team that we’re going to do it. We can see the table, we know how it works in the Premier League. Now it’s up to us to prove and show we can handle the situation.
Three points from six games and people are asking about his job, and Rose still tells his players the truth. We were not ready, we were not sharp enough, it is our responsibility. Then he stops it spreading any further. They played five games well, this is the first one they didn’t, and he knows the team and the way they work. Bournemouth-like is the useful word. Everyone at that club knows what a Bournemouth press looks like, so he names the strength and the standard in one go, and that covers SQAs and Identity together. He drops a mark on Path, though, because he never says what changes on Monday.

Matchweek 7
AFC Bournemouth 2 – 0 Sunderland
Sunday 18 October 2026, 2pm, Vitality Stadium.
Marco Rose, AFC Bournemouth
11/12. Identity level: Belonging and Capability.
“Congrats to everyone at the club, to the lads, to our fans. They were really patient the last couple of weeks, even [though] we didn’t get the points out of the game. Important win.”
“We were quite sharp in these kinds of moments and that’s why we have a clean sheet, we scored two goals and we won the game.”
“We were quite dominant, we were intense. I felt even in the locker room and yesterday in training that we wanted to force this win with everything we have. It’s a mentality.”
“If I’m honest, I feel relief, but not just me.”
“That’s what I feel, everyone here in the club, because everyone feels that the work we do is good, that the way we stick together is good.”
“Everyone, everything is in the right place but if you don’t get the results then you have to answer questions. That’s the point.”
“Today we have our first win but we need more and want more. That’s very important because we are still in a tough situation.”
First win of the season and Rose hands the credit straight to the club, the lads and the fans. The work we do is good, the way we stick together is good, it’s a mentality: those are SQAs that don’t depend on results, and he says them while the club is still in a tough situation. The barren run gets treated as a results problem rather than a people problem, so the players keep the credit for the work. Both halves of the Elevate Formula. We need more and want more holds the standard after a win. Path is 1. More isn’t yet a next step.

Matchweek 8
Manchester United 0 – 3 Bournemouth
Sunday 25 October 2026, 2.00pm, Old Trafford.
Marco Rose, Bournemouth
Score: 12/12. Identity level: Belonging and Capability.
I’m really happy today about our approach, our effort, our attitude, the way we started the game. We knew it’s going to be difficult to hear the noises around, so we needed to be ready and we were ready today, that’s what we showed. and it means we came in our game and this was the most important thing we spoke about before to be focused on us and not the noises around.
I think so. We had many good ball wins, many good situations. Ryan won one against the goalkeeper. but we scored three goals, had a clean sheet so the other things we still work on.
Yeah, it was his best game so far since I’m here. I think he needed a little bit of time after the World Cup, many games, he traveled for the for the national break yeah I think now he’s in in a good shape in a really good shape and you just have to have to continue
yeah this is football I mean after Chelsea we were sitting in the locker room and spoke about how to change the things. Before we did many good games but didn’t get the reward. Then Chelsea, it was a slap and after that my feeling is we were a little bit more focused in details and it’s there are always more things they are deciding and now we change the momentum but we have to continue it’s the most important thing not getting back in a comfort zone we want more belief and confidence and competition for places
yeah really I’m really happy. Even Armin is back, Justin is back, Junior, and some lads are in really good shape. Even the guys they didn’t play today, Julio, played well against Graz in the European League. So we have competition and we have many games, so I can count on everyone. That’s what I see, that’s what I feel. Sometimes I have to say sorry, today I couldn’t give you any minutes and that’s what we need. We have to stay healthy, we need to continue, we have to work hard and then it’s getting a good season.
Rose tells the story of how Bournemouth turned their season around, and the players are in every part of it. Before the Chelsea game the performances were good and the results were not coming. Then Chelsea was a slap, and afterwards they sat in the dressing room and talked about getting the details right.
His point about not getting the rewards earlier is the important one. He is telling the players that the quality which won them this match was always there. It is theirs, and it lasts. The bad night at Chelsea was one night and it is over.
He treats today the same way. Be ready for the noise at Old Trafford and stay focused on themselves. And he will not let the win make them comfortable, because they are not going back into a comfort zone and everyone in the squad is in contention.

Matchweek 9
AFC Bournemouth 2 – 0 Leeds United
Saturday 31 October 2026, 3.00pm, Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth.
Marco Rose, AFC Bournemouth
Score: 11/12. Identity level: Belonging & Capability.
Another win, Marco, another clean sheet as well. But maybe a different way to win the game today?
Yeah, that’s what we spoke about before. We knew that it’s going to be different today. Leeds is a really good opposition. They matched our intensity. They have really good players in possession. That’s what I said before the game. They are physical, really hard to play, hard to beat. And we struggled a little bit at the beginning of the game. We lost some duels. But we came in better and better. We scored the goals in the right moment. And that’s why we are quite happy today.
The goal that came about, there were a couple of moments before the error from James Trafford where it seemed like your players had gone after him in particular to try and close him down. Was that all part of the game plan to try and force an error that you thought might be coming?
We talk about it and it’s always a plan of us. It’s part of our identity to be front-footed. We are looking for this kind of situations. And then it’s good if it’s working out because then you get more confidence in this stuff. And yeah, we needed this goal to gain confidence today against a real good opposite. I know that it will be one of the more straightforward goals that Evanilson scores. But nevertheless, that’s four games, four goals in a row now for him.
And he just plays like a proper number nine, doesn’t he?
He brings so much to this team in so many different ways. Yeah, that’s what he did always. He was always hard-working for the team in possession, out of possession. He assisted goals. The only thing he suffered a little bit or he lacked were scoring by himself. And that’s what he started now. And I hope he’s getting in the run because, as you said, he’s very important for us.
Sometimes with 1-0 Leeds, it can play out that your team are hanging on a bit towards the end of matches like that. But it never really felt like that today. So to suggest that Amin Adli’s goal at the end sealed it, it didn’t? Would that be a fair assessment?
Yeah, we feel quite confident. And you can see that everyone is working hard to not concede a goal, to avoid chances of the opponent. Even in the Premier League, everything is possible. That’s what we know. And then we have the quality to finish a game. And I remember all these stories we had five, six weeks ago in a different direction. And I’m quite happy that we changed the situation, that we changed the momentum and that we finally reward ourselves.
What is key to that back line? What have you done in recent weeks to change how that defence appears?
Nothing special, to be honest, because we have our patterns. We know how to defend the box and we know what we have to do. We’re just working in details and we stick to our plan, we stick together, we’re a little bit more alert in a couple of situations and then it’s about small things, details on this level, especially against such a good opposite like today.
Six wins in a row and the first thing Rose says is that Leeds matched their intensity and Bournemouth lost duels at the start. The win is then put down to something that is already part of the club. It’s part of our identity to be front-footed, and the goal came because they were looking for exactly that situation. Said that way, the pressing isn’t a tactic they used on Saturday, it is who Bournemouth are, and an Identity like that carries its SQAs with it.
Evanilson is handled carefully. Rose lists what he always gave the team, the hard work in and out of possession and the assists, before mentioning the one thing he lacked, so the goals read as the last piece rather than as the arrival of a player. And he reaches back five or six weeks to the stories going the other way, so a squad hears that a bad spell is something they came out of. Asked what changed at the back, though, the answer is details and small things, so there is nothing particular for the week ahead.

What links this league table to a life-or-death negotiation?
