The Elevate Formula is a thread that weaves itself all through The 7 Skills to impress™.
And here, I briefly describe how it was the backbone for the tools I used to prepare myself to perform at my best in my ‘inspirational speech’.
The Elevate Formula leads you to believe that your ‘Lasting’ strengths will drive success over a ‘Fleeting’ difficulty. And it is your strengths, not the problem, that define you.
And so, to achieve my Outcomes for the talk, I needed to convince my System 1 that;
1. The task itself wouldn’t go on forever.
My nerves had created the picture of a looming crisis I couldn’t see past. I wanted to see it as a moment that would soon be behind me. Doing this seemed to make it a more manageable event.
2. That I had the skills I needed to deal with it.
I wanted to believe I could perform at my best for this job and handle any surprises or setbacks that may arise.
3. I was a capable and confident person who could take such challenges in my stride.
In those days, it was natural for me to believe that my nerves were what defined me. I saw them as a weakness; thus, I used to think of myself as a weak man. Instead, I wanted my SQAs to be the basis of my Identity. I needed to see myself as strong, determined and capable.
Now I have a wonderful technique that embeds the Elevate Formula into your subconscious mind. It’s powerful and effective and makes a permanent change. In fact, I used it to heal my PTSD. It’s called ‘Review and Preview’.
But at this stage, Review and Preview was in its infancy, evolving from the methods I used with my clients. For more on Review and Preview, please use the links below to go to The Hub index. In there, you’ll find a complete guide to R&P.
As you know, I used High-Performance Imprinting to prepare myself for the talk.
“One of the reasons HPI works so well is that the Elevate Formula is in its DNA…

For example, when you set an Outcome and do Realisation;
- In the last phase of HPI, you focus on what happens after the challenge. And so, you are seeing it as a time-limited event.
- You imagine your SQAs bringing you success, which makes your System 1 assume you have these skills and that they are Lasting.
- You think of or see yourself in your mind’s eye, using your SQAs and succeeding. This implies that you can bring a High IDQ to that moment.
That’s how the Elevate Formula played a massive role in my success for this talk. It helped me transform from a bumbling bag of nerves into a confident and assertive presenter.
